Julien: Game 1 for Bruins won’t be on Thursday

WILMINGTON — According to Bruins coach Claude Julien, the date for Game 1 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent hasn’t been finalized — and can’t be until the two games on Tuesday determine the lowest suriving seed of the Penguins, Hurricanes and Rangers — but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a Thursday night drop of the puck at the Garden. It could be a Friday and Sunday start for Games 1 and 2, or perhaps even Saturday and Monday if the Boston Celtics have to be factored in over next weekend. As of right now, the Celtics are scheduled to host a potential Game 7 against the Chicago Bulls in their opening round of playoffs on Saturday at the TD Banknorth Garden.

“I can’t tell you when we’re starting, but I can probably tell you that it’s not going to be Thursday,” said Julien.

Stay tuned on this one.

–In other practice news, a personal day off from practice at Ristuccia Arena for Bruins blueliner and Norris Trophy Finalist Zdeno Chara, who — to my knowledge — is still expecting the birth of his first child. Perhaps today is the blessed day that a Little Z is born into the world.

Haha i just read this twice and realized that in like 500 words you basically just told me nothing :) “I can’t tell you when we’re starting, but I can probably tell you that it’s not going to be Thursday,”

Get out the magic 8 ball!

I beg to differ, but telling you it’s not going to be on Thursday is something…no?

This is like trying to figure out who the Pats are drafting. It is what it is.

  • DrJeff

it is either pitt or nyr

  • Gingersnap

you said “PROBABLY” won’t be Thursday.. that isn’t definite!

  • Char

    Isn’t Mrs. Z a week overdue? Yikes.

I think so…and that’s going to be one Big Chara baby. B’s told me they would pass along any info they got tonight, and I haven’t heard anything yet. So the wait goes on.

How about that fight between Joe Thornton and Ryan Getzlaf right after the opening faceoff tonight? That’s the beautiful smell of desperate hockey.

    Poor Jumpin’ Joe.

    I’m getting antsy waiting…………

  • notthefuturemrshaggsnope!

That fight was a sad attempt at reviving his #’s during a crap-tastic-as-usual post season showing from Jumbo Joe. I’m glad it didn’t work. The Ducks are much more fun to watch! Get off my Getzlaf!

    Haggs,

Isnt this the best case scenario for the Black and Gold…facing a Carolina team who we handled fairly easily throughout the regular season, with them having played 7 greuling games against New Jersey. Also, Washington and Pittsburgh are left to wail on each other for 6 or 7 games. This certainly is a fun time to be a Bruins fan.

  • http://bigbadblog.weei.com Joe Haggerty

It’s definitely better than the Penguins Hockey Joe…that would have been the worst scenario possible. This Hurricanes team has been pretty impressive over the second half of the year, though. Many of the games against the Canes — if I’m not mistaken — took place in the first half of the season when Boston was blowing everybody out.

That Washington/Pittsburgh series is going to be a war, though…no doubt about that. It’s also going to get all of the national attention.

    Haggs,
I agree Caps/Pens will get all of the national attention. I’m not sure why we don’t.

    No superstars, maybe?
    Not an exciting team?
    Everyone hates Boston?
    All of the above?

It’s the NHL’s two best players/poster boys going head-to-head. The TV networks and the league think that this can be a Bird vs. Magic-type rivalry, and I’m inclined to agree with them on some level.

Sid and Ovie hate eachother…hate on the ice equals great hockey as we’ve seen with the Bruins/Habs. It’s more about them than anything against the Bruins. Just be glad the B’s weren’t standing in the way of this matchup happening because then the conspiracy theories would have been flowing like wine.
