NHL: 15 Winter Classics not enough 12.04.09 at 1:55 pm ET
By Graig Woodburn

The NHL sent out a press release Friday afternoon with some interesting information on the Winter Classic set for New Year’s Day at Fenway. According to the league:

· Registrations on NHL.com for an opportunity to purchase tickets to the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic surpassed 307,000. That eclipsed the number of registrations for last season’s game by more than 25 percent.

· If each person who registered was given the right to purchase two tickets, the NHL could host 15 Winter Classic games at Fenway and still not meet the ticket demand.

· General seating and standing room only tickets are already sold out for the Jan. 8 college hockey doubleheader at Fenway.

· The recently announced celebrity/legends charity hockey game on Jan. 2 at Fenway has sold more than 25,000 tickets.

All you fans are getting sucked in … The players didn’t care about you in 2005, why should you now care about the winter classic?

Screw hockey… I’m still on strike. Hockey is no longer a revelant sport for me. If everybody didn’t care, the players would be pumping gas instead.

Save your money, stay on strike like the players did to you in 2005, and tell them to all go to hell. Nobody cares.

Gary, you’re an idiot. The players Did not strike in 2005. The Owners and league struck because of the high Salaries of the players, owners did not want to spend that much money. (Joe Sakic one year had a salary of 16M) and increase Free Agent spending by big market teams. The league wanted it to be fair for all, so they set a Salary cap Floor (Minimum for teams to spend) and a Salary cap Ceiling. It’s dumb and Naive fans like you that ruin the sport and do not allow it to grow.

Do your research / Think before you Type/Speak.

I absolutely agree with you Nick! These winter classics and the other outdoor games prior to the annual events have been a superb celebration of the sport. I’ll be attending the winter classic and I have been counting down the days to the event since it was announced. Myself and many of my friends are huge Bruins fans. Nearly every person I have introduced hockey to have stuck with the sport after I brought them to a game. Go Bruins! Go NHL! Go Hockey at all levels! An amazing sport.
