Julien: ‘We deserved the win if we scored the goals’

It seemed very innocent and obvious when Bruins coach Claude Julien gave his team credit for battling the hottest and best team in the NHL to a 1-1 draw after two periods. After watching his team surrender three in the third, it became nothing more than another in a string of eight straight losses, 4-1 to Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.

In short, Julien said they deserved the win on Tuesday night “if we had scored some goals.” Julien believed his team could have been up, 4-1, after two instead of tied.

And of course, deserving the win and earning the win is a bridge these struggling Bruins have yet to cross.

Here is what Julien had to say for his troops following Tuesday’s setback, an eighth straight loss that gave them their longest losing skid in 54 seasons.

    Deserved to win the game? Are you kidding me? This is what they’ve resorted to. You EARN a win, not deserve. You don’t deserve to win when you have Wideman and Hunwick paired together. You don’t deserve to win when one of your supposed “young stars” can’t hit the net on a penalty shot. You don’t deserve to win when you’re starting goalie is napping on plays and constantly over-committing and taking himself out of position. You don’t deserve to win when you overpay role players that you mistakenly overvalued. You don’t deserve to win when the only goal you can muster is on a 5-3. You don’t deserve to win when you give Savard linemates who are no more than 3rd or 4th line players. In the words of Clint Eastwood (Will Munny) in Unforgiven, “Deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it.”

    You deserve last place in the division, thats what you deserve. Tim Thomas is a joke at this point, I could have won the Vezina with last years defense, so why lock him up for what, 4 years @ like 5 mil a year? You could’ve put that cash into a SCORER. Maybe well end up with the #1 AND #2 draft picks this year?! But it looks like Toronto will be alot better now that they recognize that they stink, AND DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
