Report: Whitfield could miss season 08.22.10 at 11:19 am ET

Bruins center Trent Whitfield, who spent the majority of his last season playing for Providence, has a ruptured Achilles tendon and could miss the entire year, according to SomethingsBruin.net.

In 52 games for the Providence Bruins, Whitfield scored 17 goals and added 26 assists. He played 16 games for Boston and had one assist. The 33-year-old likely was not in Claude Julien’s plans for the upcoming season but the injury is certainly a case of losing depth at an important position.

The Bruins already have the likes of Marc Savard, David Krejci, Tyler Seguin, Patrice Bergeron, and Gregory Campbell at center as they prepare for training camp next month.

    paille and campbell on the p.k. as well..

    when sturm comes back he replaces the guy in the doghouse or injured..

    when the injury bug hits toss any one of the top prospects on one of the first lines…

    looks like a cup contender to me…

    Cup contender be serious !! This team sucks Ryder Wheeler could we get any softer.
    Seguin please we can’t expect an 18 yr old to make an impact right away. The d is suspect at best I would be surprised if they finish in the playoff’s.

    They don’t have any talent upfront most of there forwards would be hard pressed to make 3rd lines on the better teams in the league.

    Last cup was 71-72 season I have been waithing since then and don’t see them making the steps needed to field a legit contender. The organization is a joke and should be blown up from the owner dow to the training staff. Start fresh with smart hockey people who know what it takes to win
