I am a huge Proclaimers fan and, believe me, there are a lot of us fans on this side of the Atlantic. And with seven albums, the Proclaimers have more than enough great songs to “last an entire play.” Perhaps if you had actually bought a ticket and seen the play, your opinions might not sound quite so parochial.

You have something right about the cultural thing though. The Billy Joel musical played on Broadway for 3 years but “at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre where, despite receiving mostly solid reviews, it ran for less than two months. Joel had not had any major hits in the UK for several years, so he wasn’t a major draw for mainstream audiences.”

“Sunshine on Leith” is on it’s third run and there is talk they may make
it into a movie – so you may be lucky enough to see it yet!!
