Bruins shake lines up following ugly loss 12.21.10 at 11:34 am ET
By DJ Bean

WILMINGTON — Nobody could have been happy following the B’s 3-0 loss to the Ducks on Monday, and Claude Julien responded by shaking up the offensive lines in practice on Tuesday. Brad Marchand remains out, so the lines were as follows:

Lucic – Savard – Horton

Recchi  - Bergeron – Seguin

Wheeler – Krejci – Ryder

Paille – Campbell – Thornton

A couple of quick thoughts to consider:

- Looks like that generation-spanning line might finally get some serious time. The Recchi – Bergeron – Seguin line looked good in training camp but has never been a fixture in the regular season.

- Nathan Horton finally gets Marc Savard to set him up. This could mean improved offensive production, but Horton’s entire game needs a shot of energy.

- There was a bit a brief exchange between Savard and Bergeron at one point in the skate, with the two exchanging cross-checks. It didn’t seem serious or something that lasted throughout the practice, but it’s good to see some fire from a squad that’s been lethargic.

julien trying to many combos let them play for stretch together

  • Deano

I do not like these line pairings; especially of Recchi, Bergeron, Seguin.

Recchi has been getting pushed around a lot this year, and should be on a line with someone who plays physically to help protect him so the defensemen like Andrew Ference doesn’t have to fight people for Recchi. Great Mentor but should not be opposite Seguin on a line unless the center is a big physical player which the bruins don’t have at that position.

Bergeron will stand up for himself but is not a fighter. He is still the best all around player on the Bruins. Not the ideal player to center a line with two little forwards at the winger position.

Ryder wont even stand up for himself from what I have seen and plays with no physical presence at all. Not a good candidate for any line on this team and they should have traded him instead of Sturm.

Seguin should be on a line with someone like Lucic who can help protect the young kid and help create space on the ice with physicality. Last thing we want is Seguin to get cheap shotted and have to watch as no Bruin on the ice does anything.

With Savard signed for years and Seguin developing into a young goal scorer wouldn’t it make sense to have them play together? Ideally with a big physical winger on their line to create space for the two to operate and step in if their is a fight.

If you have Seguin out there with Bergeron and Recchi all three will be perfect targets for head shots, getting shoved around the crease and getting stuck in their own end because they can’t move the puck up the sideboards against pinching defensemen. I do not care what they saw in preseason there is no way this line makeup is the best Julien can come up with.

well said deano,..i,d like to see mcgratton brought up and added to this team, just for a couple shifts a game, you see other teams less interested in going in the corners…..thornton,lucic, mcgratton, almost like o,rielly, jonathan, secord,…..balance the toughness and skill guys get more time to dangle.thats bruins hockey, look at how many 20goal scorers boston had on those teams, and they were never run off the ice.
