Daniel Paille suspended 4 games for blindside hit on Raymond Sawada

WILMINGTON – The Bruins have been against dirty hits for some time, and on Friday they saw action taken against one. B’s forward Daniel Paille was suspended for four games Friday following his blindside hit on Stars forward Raymond Sawada in Thursday’s 6-3 victory over Dallas. Paille was given a game misconduct after the play, with Sawada not returning to the game.

Paille was present at Friday’s practice, skating on the fourth line with Shawn Thornton, Gregory Campbell, and Tyler Seguin. The team had called up center Zach Hamill from Providence on Thursday, meaning no move will need to be made to fill his roster spot. Paille will be eligible to return Feb. 15 against the Maple Leafs.

    I’m sorry but one of the number one things you are taught when learning to play this game is do not skate with your head down. It just opens you up for a hit like this.

    this is b.s., if you look again paille, gets @ front of sawada,the only reason there was head contact, is because sawada was leaning forward in a prone position, puc chasing! the cooke hit comes more from the shoulder blade direction, its a judgement call,the fact that sawada,dropped like a stone,(to quote milbury}the refs feel obligated to make a call.thats a good hit from a hustleing back check, if sawada is upwrite with vision of the play,he fights that check off!

    Maybe DJ will enlighten all of us with his definition of “blind side”. Paille is actually in front of him when contact is initiated. If the league doesnt want hits being made on players with their heads down, fine, spell it out. As for applying rule 48 to this hit, the league missed it but that shouldnt come as a big surprise to many out there. There are only a few teams that seem to be exempt from being disciplined in this league. Any guesses?
