Nathan Horton leaves in stretcher after blindside hit from Aaron Rome, transported to hospital 06.06.11 at 8:37 pm ET
By DJ Bean

Bruins forward Nathan Horton was motionless on the ice roughly five minutes into the first period of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals Monday after taking a blindside hit to the head from Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome. Horton did not have the puck as Rome dropped the first-line forward at the blueline. The back of Horton’s head was the first thing to hit the ice. After minutes without moving, Horton was taken off the ice in a stretcher. Rome was given a five-minute interference major and game misconduct.

The Bruins announced later in the period that Horton was transported to Mass General Hospital and is moving his extremities.

If 1 of the Canucks does not leave the Garden on a streacher I will lose all faith in the Bruins.

Wasn’t blindside, and wasn’t that bad. He got hurt, that sucks, I like Horton, but you can’t egg a guy on, then cross the blueline with your head down right after making a pass. That is honestly pure stupidity.

  • Dear Justin

You take the cake for pure stupidity. Can you not click the replay link at the top of the page? He 1) clearly wasn’t looking down and 2) why should he have to worry about an elbow to the head 3 seconds after the pass? Get the fuck out of here with your holier than thou bullshit. No one here wants to hear it.

Your head must be down or shoved up someplace I do not even want to think about. How could you watch this replay and not see it was elbow slam into the head?

Maybe you should learn human anatomy first. It was not an elbow it was Rome’s shoulder that hit Horton in the head. The hit was an ilegal hit according to the new rules but the hit its self was not bad. It was the way Horton’s head hit the ice when he feel that knocked him out.

What is the matter with you justin? It was clearly a cheap shot!! Canucks have shown they are classless.Guy deserves a suspension for hit. That’s the second chickenshit incident this series.

at about 30 frames per second this is not 3 seconds after the pass hit, it is a lot less. His head was down and he should not leave himself so vulnerable – it is extremely unfortunate. The game is so fast and the equipment is so big and hard as a result this can happen. As far as an elbow I do not think so, the video shows clearly that it is a shoulder upper arm contact. I hope Horton will be ok. More suspension most likely yes but not warranted.
