Alain Vigneault still unhappy with Tim Thomas, talks to league 06.08.11 at 12:38 pm ET
By DJ Bean

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault expressed frustration with Bruins’ goaltender Tim Thomas Wednesday, saying that he has spoken to the NHL about the way Thomas plays outside the crease and initiates contact with players. He also had a problem with Thomas’ hit on Vancouver center Henrik Sedin in the third period of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals, a hit that occurred in the crease.

“We’ve asked the league, obviously,” Vigneault said. “Part of Thomas’ way of playing is playing out of the blue paint, initiating contact, roaming out there. He seems to think that once he’s out, he’s set and makes the save, that he can go directly back in his net without having anybody behind him. That’s wrong. He’s got the wrong rule on that.

“If we’re behind him, then that’s our ice. We’re allowed to stay there. We’ve talked to the NHL about that. We’ve talked to the NHL about him initiating contact, like he did on Hank, and they’re aware of it. Hopefully they’re going to handle it.”

Vigneault had also complained about Thomas after Game 1, in which Thomas drew a tripping call on Canucks winger Alexandre Burrows.

Sounds to me like Vancouver is starting to get afraid they might lose and are grasping at straws to try and stay alive… too bad, they have so much talent but they still feel they have to lie, cheat and steal to win. I know this is Alain’s first Final but he should know better than this. He’s just making his team and himself look bad.

  • Kris Borzilleri

Sounds like a sore loser who’s team has less balls than a women’s softball team. Crying about a GOALIE smashing one of your larger players? Seriously? I don’t remember hearing Thomas, and mayb eI am wrong about this, complaining about players making contact with him when he is out of the crease and goes back in net. These guys are pathetic. Thomas is killing them and they are whining. Way to get your team ready, I can’t wait for tonite when these nuckin a holes go down again! Go BRUINS!!!

  • Matt

Suck it up. Ron Hextall made a living initiating contact, mostly by breaking ankles with his stick. He also needs to read the NHL rulebook posted on the NHL’s website. Even if the goalie is outside of the crease, ANY contact or impeding of the goalies return to the crease is a penalty. he is indeed grasping at straws.

And I still don’t see how Thomas’s hit was worthy of a penalty. He was taking the body of a player who had possession of (or at the very least in the immediate area of) the puck. No where in the rulebook can I find anything prohibiting the goalkeeper from making physical contact with the other players.

Vancouver is Bush League from top to bottom.

  • Marc

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • http://www.massholesports.com MassholeSports

He’s trying to get into Tim Thomas’ head. Sorry dude, at this point is not going to work.

  • http://Enteryourwebsite... jason

Let’s not forget that Ms Sedin, grabbed the puck, was facing his own goal, turned, and dropped the puck in a way as to better his offensive position and create a scoring chance. As far as I know, closing ur hand on the puck, is a penalty. Timmy did the right thing. If Ms Sedin is going to get a scoring chance, then it needed to be taken away. Every goalie in the NHL, that’s worth anything, plays outside the crease, its called cutting down the angle……get over it! Go Bruins!!!!!

  • HockeyLovinWoman

Jeez, did AV not watch a single minute of game videos of Thomas? The guy is KNOWN for having an aggressive, physical, “battlefly” goalie style. If Thomas can’t play outside his crease, then Lu-ocho better keep his butt parked inside the blue paint, too.

It’s sad: the Canucks are *stacked* with high-end talent; but they can’t seem to win things CLEANLY when it comes to BIG games. But if they don’t win, they find something to whine and cry about. Other teams did not whine and complain their way to the Final round. They played hockey; they admitted when they made mistakes or things cost them games. To quote Boudreau in 24/7, sack up, Vancouver!

The Canucks are so full of divers that even the broadcasters on both sides of the US/Canadian border are making note of it, snickering or making sarcastic comments as yet another Canuck embellishes a hit or a dive. (Sedins and Kesler are the worst, and yet they have some of the best God-given hockey talent in the league!)

They complained they weren’t getting *enough* powerplays. Maybe it’s because about 30% of their scoring comes from being on the PP, and *gasp* they have to work harder to score on the 5-on-5. You don’t see Boston complaining about not being on the PP, and they have one of the worst PP success rates in the playoffs. (In fact, BOS had one of the best shorthanded records this year – something VAN might want to keep in mind.)

And watch Vancouver when they get down 2-3 points in a game. Then you really see desperation – and you see some of Torres’ most notorious hits, and other bad hits where players on other teams end up having to be removed from the game from injury.

Chicago – a team riddled with injuries that was exhausted from battling its way to the very last game of their season – took Vancouver to the woodshed in round 1; not only battling back from an 0-3 deficit but taking the Canucks to OT in both games 6 and 7 in some of the most thrilling playoff hockey in recent history. Jonathan Toews said they needed to “expose” the Canucks for “what they really are”. When pressed to clarify, he said, “Beatable”. Chicago showed them to be beatable — and also showed Vancouver’s true colors, as the Canucks complained and whined and dove their way through that series, too.

Get out the wahhhhhhhhhhhhmbulance. They need it to lead the parade in Vancouver.

  • Janelle

Seriously? I guess a little worried after game 3…the Canucks should be. If Sedin can’t handle the hit, then he should stay out of the crease! Perhaps Vigneault needs to read Rule 69 – interference with a goalkeeper.

  • Deano

I have to agree, this is grasping at straws. Thomas is a far better at playing goalie than Alain Vigneault is at being a coach. The goalie has the right to whatever ice he wants and is allowed a clear path back to the net. If the opposing player gets in his way than it is a penalty. Go read the rule book. Just because Vancouver is a canadian team does not mean they get to make the rules up as they play, only Montreal gets to do that.

Plus, I don’t know if Alain heard this but Timmy T is not taking any criticism on his playing style as he currently is playing better than any other goalie in the NHL. I mean if Alain was coaching the Bruins would he be telling Thomas to play less aggressively? I doubt it.

Thomas comes out of the crease a lot. This means Thomas is going to be better at facing shots and redirects because he is cutting down the angle. However, Thomas is vulnerable to dekes and one timers because he over plays the puck carrier to the shot. So instead of whining try coaching your players to take the extra pass vs Thomas and or carry the puck to the net for the deke move. With Thomas all a team needs to do is fake the shot and go for the deke, not that complicated and Burrows showed that in game 2.

This Vigneault guy should be more concerned about the play of his own team. He should be sitting the Sedin’s down and telling them to get their head’s out of their asses and start living up to their billing. Both of them are clearly affected by the physicality of this series and comments like this only make that more obvious.

  • Joe

But if he comes out of the crease to bite someone, then that’s a different story! Quit yor bitchin’!

  • http://Enteryourwebsite... go nucks

lol, silly bruins fans, save your banter to make excuse come friday when the cup is lifted in Vancouver..

  • Me

Boo-hoo! The Canucks are crying again, what a surprise…

  • Me

NHL is the worst league ever with the worst officiating and disciplinary decisions compared with MLB, NBA, and NFL….just horrible…

Also…for those that don’t know the rules…a goalie can’t do what Tim just did that night…period…I hope Bruins win since I’m a Boston fan…but I want them to win with class…not with cheap shots that represent no skill…it’s quite disappointing…

  • wingslover

Me, at 12:17… Agreed… except the part about the Bruins winning. I have severe issues with Colin Campbell’s kid playing/winning, which any way you look at it… means the discipline is second tier… Colin is the worst hockey Mom I have seen in forever. Hate the thought that his department may have something to do with his kid’s name on the Cup.
Thomas? He just makes me embarrassed to be from the same home town. Goalies get special rules because they do not abuse them. He is. He keeps pushing, showing no class whatsoever. He launched himself at Sedin BEFORE Sedin was in the crease. And then tonight, showed a lack of temper, sportsmanship and perfect thug leadership when he instigated a fight with Alex Burrows, and then cleared out to let his henchmen do the dirty work of beating up Burrows, unaware that their goalie had started the fistfight. If I was a Bruin, I wouldn’t trust him… no telling when that balloon is going to pop.

  • peter vasquez

THis team is the biggeest bunch of cry babies. I’m a Blackhawks fan and I even hate the Canucks more than Detroit. Their fans are even worse, making up excuses. Boy do I wish Patrick Sharp had converted in OT of game 7.

  • http://Enteryourwebsite... Phil

Lol you people sound like you just experienced first ever coach whining during the playoffs. I’m a Canucks fan and I see AV whining too. Obviously we’re losing grasp of the series so things like this shows up. Julien has been doing his fair share of whining until Game 2 as well. Losers whine. Don’t act like that’s something you’ve unheard of.

  • Marie

I agree with everyone that’s logical about this… This is ridiculus! Really sounds like the Canucks coach is trying to defend the fact that their team is not as good as they thought it would be! Thomas never cheated nor will he ever do… He’s one of the only real passionnate goaler. He’s allowed to play outside the crease, its called “cutting down the angle” like someone mentioned it before! I’m shocked that Vigneault would try to put his losing on someone else’s shoulder! Can’t admit that his team’s not playing at his best… That’s just really sad! It is his first final, and he has a great team, but trying to play the victim over something that ridiculus is just pathetic! Go Bruins Go!!!

  • http://Enteryourwebsite... gp

If you actually watched the same game then you would know Thomas retaliated for the slash burrows have him. Before you whine make sure you know what your talking about

  • Marky B

Sorry your goalie sucks, and has givin up 12 goals in 5. 2 periods! Dont cry about our goalie when yours is the one making you cry!!! hahahhahahhahaha!!

  • Angie

I agree with both me and wingslover.
Discipline has been in question in all the series in the playoffs especially in the Chicago-Vancouver series (ice cleaning during OT in Game 6, anyone?), but never have I seen such a classless team as the Bruins. When even the goalie chooses to show a lack of sportsmanship and class, and the players themselves make a mockery of their coach’s words (re: the Burrows bite incident), it suggests that Boston isn’t afraid of being reprimanded for its actions.

As for Vancouver, they have found ways to win, and to come back. You don’t win President’s Trophy by whining and diving alone…nor do you make it to Finals that way either.

As for Boston, they stopped being classy when Bourque decided he “deserved” a Stanley Cup…whiner

  • B

Blah Blah Blah Alain.Like the saying goes,if your going to dish it out than you better be able to take it.Your guys have dished out alot in these playoffs and know you don’t like it when you get it back.Bottom line is now your in a series and your worried.I think its great.Your goalie can do the same if he wants but can’t because he lacks the confidence. To me this is a non issue and another excuse because your boys sre getting out played.I think this series could go 7 games and I like Bostons chances.Just my 2 cents

  • http://Enteryourwebsite... Tim

Why don’t you all stop crying and just see who comes out on top. They will truley be the winners and worthy of the Cup

  • PMain

    Angie,

We’re all truly sorry that the Sedin sisters can’t take the heat, nor can the overly soft Canucks in general.

The problem with Vancouver is their team isn’t Canadian enough.
The B’s are tough, gritty, hard-working, and they don’t back down.
it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they are 70% CANADIAN (14/20).

Perhaps if the Canucks were less Euro they might have a better chance.
Meanwhile I’m sure that you can catch some figure skating highlights
    somewhere on your satellite.

    All the best,

Bruins fan from the Great White North

  • Rhian

@Wingslover… Hockey is a rough sport, people push people all the time and this has nothing to do with ‘class’. If you don’t like that, don’t watch hockey. Tim Thomas did not clear out to ‘let his henchmen do the dirty work.’ He threw punches and other players from both teams jumped in as well as the refs, he didn’t start a fight and just back away, Vancouver players would have done the exact same thing for Luongo. No matter what team it is they are going to protect their goalie, get over it.

Vigneault should be more concerned about his own players. Instead of complaining Thomas is out of the crease too much, work on taking advantage of it instead of whining. If he had enough faith in his own players he wouldn’t have to try and find faults in Boston and complain about them.

  • Bob

I’m a Sharks fan, so I started the Finals ambivalent about the outcome. I love hockey, so I justed wanted to watch and enjoy. I was leaning, I suppose, toward Vancouver because the twins are so fun to watch, and Kesler is great, but after seeing Vancouver’s “performance” I am now rooting for the B’s. Whining, diving, biting, and, in the case of Rome, destroying. Now, I want Boston to light them up night after night! GO B’s!

  • Not a Casucks fan!

People! Have we all forgot what we are talking about? its a game called Hockey! Its all about Checking, and slapping sticks and blood, beards and bronze, and making a goal however you can. Other than the UFC, Name one other sport that lets you duke it out, or slam your opponent into a wall. This is a game of Titans……. May Vigneault would be better coaching the over 70 cricket team, but he would probably accuse 80 year old Martha, of being to aggressive on the ice.

  • hawksfan4ever

I’ve been a hockey fan for over 40 yrs. and have never seen such a pathetic excuse for an NHL team in my life! Every time they lose they whine about something, trying to place blame on everyone other than themselves. They complain about Thomas knocking Burrows on his azz, but refuse to acknowledge that Burrows chopped Thomas’ stick out of his hand just seconds before. The Canucks are, by far, the dirtiest, divingest, bitingest bunch of crybaby sissy boys in the history of the NHL. As someone else said, if Patrick Sharp had scored on that shot in OT, these clowns wouldn’t even be playing. Burrows is the biggest p***y in the league. Takes a couple of swings at Thomas, gets knocked down and proceeds to “turtle”. What a wuss!

  • PATRICIA DADMUN

We are loling at you fool.

  • Angie

    Pmain,

Having more or less Canadian players on a team has nothing to do with winning a Stanley Cup–
The Bruins are goons and play dirty…last I checked that wasn’t the Canadian way to play hockey!

It’s now a best of three and now we’ll see which team finds the will and the way to win.

  • hawksfan4ever

    @angie,
You are obviously one of the multitude of delusional, mentally unstable casuck fans. YOUR team are the ones doing the whining, crying and biting!!
Grow a brain and pullfor a REAL NHL team!!

  • Jordan

I agree with Tim, stop crying and watch the series.

  • Not a Casucks fan!

How many cups does Vancouver? Oh that’s right, None! Boston has FIVE!

  • Eric

I’m fine with the aggressive play of a goalie, especially coming out to play the puck, it’s completely part of the game. But that interference call was complete garbage, and the hit on Sedin, while entertaining, how could that not be called interference?

  • Marie

    @Angie

I’m sorry your team player took a bite off our player… That shows class… The fact that the Bruins players are putting it back in your team’s face insults you, FINE! But stop whining after something you have no control over. It’s hockey! It’s brutal, and we love it for that. Never insult one of the greatest player of all time. Bourque deserves all the glory he has! Who are you to talk that way about anyone ??? I mean, I’m sorry but unless you really know what you’re talking about, you should just shut it, like the coach of your team should!

  • NotAB’sFan

Have to say I’m not a B’s fan..I’m a habs fan, but right now the Bruins are the better team, the first two games Van got lucky, could of been anyones game. Now with the B’s almost crushing them, can’t say they are getting lucky..it’s call talent..hopefully they take the cup as they should, unless the canucks get lucky..again.

  • Bruins Fan

Whaaaa. I didn’t hear you complaining after you were up 2-0. Maybe have a talk with Luongo ask him to start stopping pucks, talk to Burrows about feasting on fingers. Your team is embarassing themselves and so are you. Grow up, stop grasping at straws. WE ARE IN YOR HEADS NOW CANUCKS……….GO BRUINS!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO

  • 8FOU

To Wingslover: Really! Really! Thomas is sticking it to the Canuck and you cannot handle it! Like Joe said may be if he bit Sedin it would have been OK? Quit your Bitchin all the whinning and nasty comments only make the Canucks look worse.
Thomas has one of the best sportsmanship skills in a league! So shut up and deal with it!

  • Sweet Tea

Yep….I knew it would happen….Luongo is blowing up just like th Griswold Family Christmas Turkey!

  • Higzy

BRUINS ARE GOING DOWN LIKE THE SACKS OF SHIT THEY ARE AND THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS WILL WIN THE STANLEY CUP BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BEST TEAM. THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS.

  • Captain Boston

Hey Alain, want some cheese with that whine? You pup, get out of the big boys game…

  • ralph stevens

Well, he could complain about a lot more ….The C

Cannuck players are being slashed all the time behind the play on the legs ..Especially the twins..
Chara is a very dirty player who will get it some day… Lets not forget Pacioretti..That hit was made with a purpose..
Boston got away with a lot last night.. And they did it to Montreal or they would not be in the finals now..

  • Captain Boston

Sacks of shit? Wow, I hear that’s on sale in Vancouver… Har har har…

  • Captain Boston

Talking dirty players are we? Well then, let’s not forget about Burrows and Keseler, ok? How’s Lose-uongo feeling today? He was looking like somebody killed his dog AFTER HE GOT PULLED… Wanna talk stats? Well then how about 12-1? Now the most lopsided two game score in STANLEY CUP HISTORY!!

  • http://flyers chris

Im a die hard flyers fan so of course i want vancouver to win the cup but come on here there is nothing wrong with how Thomas is playing the game like someone stated earlier Hexy made a living playing like that hit em all thomas hit em all. Congrats to the boston fans on advancing to the cup finals. god that hurts to say that

  • BroadStreetBully

He made a number of good points. Thomas has been getting away with way too much this series. It would be nice to see the League fix this problem before the series is over.

  • Steve

There’s only one way to deal with this and is Vignault needs to assign a 4th liner to run Thomas and run him hard to the point of suspension. Turnabout is fair play in my mind.

  • HOSO

Luongo stink, 12 g. 2 games. Go Thomas

  • Angie

All I said was Bourque knew he’d never win with the Bruins so he requested a trade.
That’s having faith in your team.

As for the biting, hey it’s hockey it happened after Bergeron’s hand was stuck In Burrows’ mouth. But for Lucic and Recchi to continue it in spite of Coach Julien’s comments….that’s not classy.

All coaches express frustration after a loss or losses, but Thomas’ actions are not acceptable.

  • Steve Johnson

My only problem with Thomas is he didn’t get his face smashed in by Burrows after his chicken shit slash on Alex’s hamstring. Thomas is a cheap shot artist and a thug, like most of the Bruins, but he makes saves and everybody fawns over him like he’s the second coming of Terry Sawchuck. He’s a hack. Get in his face, knock the clown on his ass, and land hard on him. Tampa ventilted him for 5 goals 3 times by getting in his face, he’s easily exposed. If he’s outside the crease, make the fool pay for it.

  • Tony in Maine

Oh good grief. Vigneault sounds like the kind of spoiled mama’s boy who was always running up to me when I did playground duty. A loooong waaaaah followed by, “Teacher. So and so is pickin’ on me.”

Elaine – get used to it. There are refs on the ice. They call the infractions – not you. Whining about how unfair the rules are because your porcelain twins aren’t given the respect you think they should get or because right now Thomas is putting on a show and Luongo isn’t is really childish.

  • LDowg in Blackhawk Country

Will Alain Vigneault EVER chug on over to mamby-pamby land and find some self confidence! Back in November Vigneault wasn’t just upset with his team’s performance in a 7-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. He said the Hawks were trying to run up the score…did Coach Quenneville whine & complain about Calgary when the beat the Hawks 7-2 the night before? Well the jackwagon is at it again!! No wonder the Canucks are the most hated team in the NHL! Like I said before, Vigneault should chug on over to mamby-pamby land and find some self confidence…or just chug out and find a new job…and take the so called “great” Roberto Luongo with him…crybabies. Tissue?

  • T in Colo

    LMAO!!! this is freakin hilarious!

Van drops the last 2 games, lou lets in 12 goals, and suddenly Thomas is cheating! What a freakin whiner, Good Goalies play aggressive, especially when everything is on the line. Personally Im lovin the way Thomas is playing, bein a lifelong Flyer fan reminds me so much of Hexy.

I especially loved the comment about Lou lookin like someone killed his dog after getting pulled!!!

AHAHAHAHAHAHA so true, man thats hilarious!

If Boston wins the next game, they will really start whining! Maybe Van can brush up a little more on their diving techniques so they can get some more pp time. If I was AV Id spend the next 2 days doin diving drills!!! hahahahaha….whiners

  • Deano

Angie and the rest of you whining, moronic and delusional Canucks fans.

Thomas is a goalie, he is allowed by rule to whatever ice he wants to make a save. If a player has possession of the puck (like Sedin) and is within hitting range of Thomas, he is allowed to knock him on his ass like any other player on the ice. Know the rule before you complain.

Secondly, Ray Bourque is the second best defense man of all time in the NHL. He has more talent than anyone on either the current Bruins or any who has ever played for the Canucks. How dare you say anything bad about this guy. He never deserted Boston, if you lived here and remember the trade, it was something the Bruins did for him because the Bruins wanted to rebuild, you moron. Bourque till lives here in MA now and does countless charity events and helps a lot of people. His kids all went to schools here in MA and I played against his son Chris while Ray was the coach at Cushing Academy. Ray Bourque is untouchable in this town because he gave everything he had and more for 20 years while playing here in Boston. Get a clue, just because the Canucks have no great players in their history does not mean you get to make comments about Ray Bourque.

    Steve Johnson,
Alex Burrows is a wimp and a punk. If he was a real man he would fight a player on the ice and not go in and cross check a goalie. Burrows brought the slash on himself by slashing Thomas twice on that one power play. Are you blind or do you just ignore the crap Burrows pulls? Why don’t you just stick to your fanboy talk up in Vancouver, I am sure they are equating Tim Thomas to satan up there in fantasy land.

Burrows has been challenged to a fight multiple times in this series and turtled every time, remember the Lucic incident? Of course when he has a huge advantage (Thomas is wearing goalie gear and cannot fight effectively) Burrows grows a pair of balls for a a half second and tries to fight Thomas. Only to find that Thomas who is at a major disadvantage in that situation is still able to handle that little puke.

Stop whining about Thomas. If anything the Canucks fans should be whining about how the Bruins have figured out Luongo, it is called shoot HIGH GLOVE SIDE. You don’t hear us complaining about Luongo’s play.

The Bruins are the cheap team? Right, that is why a Bruins player got sent to the Hospital for a cheap shot by a Canucks player, that is why a Canucks player should have been suspended for biting someone. Get real, stop listening to your Canuck propaganda and watch the games. Bruins have brought their game right to the face of the Canucks and the Canucks have turtled and complained.

Get real, you Canucks fans, just like your team, are a bunch of classless whiners, bite me.

  • http://bleacherreport Pat_Boston

Sedin had the puck you retards especially “wingslover” and “me”. any palyer with the puck can be hit no matter if hes in the crease or on the blue line, besides the goalie. thomas checked him and was credited with a body check in the game stats. im sorry the sedins have no balls and their dives arent getting them calls. but still in that 8-1 game boston had 4 PP while vancouver had over 8 including 6 in a row. tim thomas is not playing illegal, or doing anything cheap. nothing the bruins have done this series is cheap. they just are a better team, not in skill but in heart, effort and class. they stick up for each other and wont go down without a fight. im so sick and tired of seeing canadian teams dives, act hurt and flop around then go crying to the league when they lose. the bruins are here because they deserve it, not because of colin cambell, if not why didnt the panthers even make the playoffs? why wasnt burrows suspended? ur all just loser cry babies. get a life and learn how hockeys suppose to be played. with guts not with dives and fake injuries. BRUINS IN 6.

One announcer last night called the Sedin’s Thelma and Louise!!!
    So true

  • T in Colo

LOL…That was millbury callin them Thelma and Louise!!! I nearly fell off my chair laughing when he said thet, and you know its gonna stick!

I totally agree with you Deano about Borque, I was extatic to see the Avys put his name on the cup, still one of my fondest hockey memories. Angie is just showing us how VanFans act when they see it all slip slidin away.

  • Ariana

    Cry more, Canucks. CRY MORE.

  • T in Colo

Lets not forget about how bad they whined when Chicago took them to a game 7

They didnt complain one time about anything when they were up 3-0. But as soon as it went to Game 7 suddenly the boards were filled with how the league is rigged and didnt want a canadian team in the finals, how the refs had it out for the nucks, and were intentionally putting them shorthanded. Comparing the NHL to wrestling….pffft

As soon as they won, all the whining stopped.

1 for 22 on the powerplay is what AV and his VanFans need to be whining about, not Thomas playing the way all great goaltenders play.

  • http://IE8 PJ

    Deano got it!!!!

  • dedas11

if what thomas is doing is cheating then what is the bite of Burrows and Bergeron??

  • Go Wings

I am a Wings fan…died in the wool. I have watched this series from the beginning, I can tell you from my stand point, the C’s have gotten away with more dirty play then the B’s. Watch some video and see how many of the C player leave their feet when the they go into someone against the boards, also watch and see where their elbows are, (just about head high on to many of the hits) and never get called. It looks like the Sedin twins are the new “pretty boys” of the NHL. The B’s sneeze wrong and get 2 minutes. Something is wrong with this picture.
Hey boys and girls, this is hockey, most of the “dirty play” is initiated by the coach. He tells the players what he wants done.
Stop the sqaubbling and whinning, if you have the talent, the guts and will to win then that is what you will do. Borrows should bave been suspended. How can you say it showed “no intent”? Did someone else close his mouth on that finger? Or maybe God intervened?
The good the bad and the ugly has come out.
but “BOYS” that’s what make a rivalry. Stop all your crying and play hockey. Let the boys in the stripes figure it out. Oh yea, shut the video to Toronto off as well….The less they are involved the better the game will be

  • Golfhacker

Jeez what has happened to the game of hockey. Remember the days of the original six and the expansion era of the late 60s and 70s, most of the players of todays era could not play with real hockey players such as Howe, Orr, Hulls, Beliveau, Richards and of course lets not forget Bobby Baun who scored the winner for TO in 67 on a broken foot. You didn’t hear complaints about bad reffing or bad players they took the punishment win or lose and proceeded to play hockey. This whining and crying by the stars of today is pathetic. Goaltenders such as Sawchuk, Cheevers, Worsley and Plante all were respected around the league because if you got in their faces they took you out. The hockey of the 60s and 70s in my opinion yielded some of the best hockey entertainment of all time. These players were men get hit, dust off and look for a sweater that wasn’t their own. Hockey today is composed of crybabies masquerading as players and getting paid way too much to play a game that most of Canadians played for the fun and love of the game.

all of you guys who say thomas plays fair are obviously retarded. if the players arent allowed to come in contact with the goalie when he’s inside his crease or behind the net playing the puck then how come thomas can just check henrik. it just doesnt make sense at all.
to everyone else who’s talking about the vancouver fans whining and shit its not the true fans who are whining. its the noobs who just hopped on the canucks bandwagon after we got past chicago

    STHeckU, play the game!

In the end….NHL is the worst league period…I hope the GM meeting will come to some senses about rules and not give any leniency about who the player is under investigation…Ben Eager should of gotten suspended…Rome should of gotten suspended…no questions asked…but why the difference? Because the league sucks…

They need to be like NFL and be harsher on the players…regardless whether their act is intentional or unintentional…regardless whether there was injury involved…just suspend the player and give a % salary fine rather than sth like 10k or 25k…that’s like a slap on the wrist…how much do u think 10k or 25k and 1 game is worth to the players?

Keep crying Vancouver, its just making the series that much better. I hope in the end you never realize just how silly this is making your team look,..bring out the excuses now because the Olsen twins will crack under the remaining pressure your town is putting on them.

If I’m not mistaken isn’t there a penalty in the books for diving??? If anybody should be crying it’s the VC opponents for the zebras never calling it on the Sedin sisters, Burrows, et al. Give me a break you chicken s*** little babies. Man up. I’m just disappointed they won’t fight like men. They remind me of the most famous diver of all time, Peter Forsberg, another Euro wimp. Put up or shut up.

It’s obvious the Bruins are making up for their lack of skill and speed with size and agressive play. It’s the difference between the countries: Canada is more into the skill and the US, as always (and it’s my country), will try to win with brutality when out-played. Everyone knows the home team gets a break from the officials (in hockey as well as in just about any other sport), so look for Boston to be much more polite in Vancouver but on Monday to really unleash the hounds. The question is, is it hockey or just mayhem? The tenor of the Bruin fans’ remarks here prove my point.

Vancouver is attempting to whine their way to a Stanley Cup. It’s sad. But more sad is that the NHL is listening. When they complained about Chicago the officiating changed in Vancouver’s favor and I’m afraid it’s going to happen again.

As a former player and now an official, I see it all. The NHL brass better open it’s eyes to what is happening to their league. Just remember the Islander-Pens game!! Coaches always have to say something. Players need to say something. This is all part of the game. I was no angel as a player. As a USA official, we are always having seminars and reminders about the rules. The refs set the tone early. It’s become the concussion league!! The best player in the NHL was out a half season as he was embarking on a record setting pace!! This head hunting has to stop. Suggestion. No helmets. The players may then have more respect like when Hull, Howe and Mikita played. Goalies need the mask, but no helmets. My 2 cents worth!

gary bettmans zebras r the worst & i thought baseball umpires were bad the nhl`s officals should learn the game & know the the rules, maybe they should open their eyes.a foul is a foul, CALL IT!!!! i know bettman is getting a kick out of this the little cheshire cat. let them play hockey the right way without the diving & headshots.but don`t be ticky taffy either, send ur refs 2 school on how the game should be played & tell the canuck coach to quit bitching he sounds like a spoiled brat, & oh by the way i used to play hockey back in the 60`s. so i do know a little bit about hockey. bettman ur an azz & this all falls on U

  • JOE P

they use to call them the 3 blind mice& now u can call them the 4 blind mice . i just had 2 say that & bettman ur still an AZZ.

  • BuffaloSabre

What’s obvious is Tim Thomas has more skill in his left testicle than Berto Luongo will ever muster if he added all of his useful years together. How much skill does it take to score 12 goals in 2 games? A lot more than what Vancouver has been able to do so far. Speed? The other night Boston was all over Vancouver, I very specifically remember Lucic smoking 2 boston defenders at the blue line. How do you let someone like Lucic out skate you Bieksa?

  • BuffaloSabre

Did I mention that I started off this series cheering for Vancouver and I absolutely despise Boston as a team if only because of the fact that I love Buffalo. But now I have no choice but to route against the pansy boy ‘nucks

  • steve s

i,m a canucks fan but think that vigneault is wrong i have no problem with a goalie coming out of the blue to make what i saw as a clean hit as long as he expects to recieve a clean hit when he leaves the blue paint. if he checks like a 6th skater he should be checked like a 6th skater while out of the paint

  • steve s

some of you should watch the game on cbc they actualyy show the dirty from both teams

  • http://Enteryourwebsite... Tony

I’m with Buffalosabre, I used to like Vancouver, back when Bertuzzi played with them. But as a lifelong Blackhawks fan once they wee out of the playoffs it form’t matter who won, except for how crappy Vancouver has been!

  • steve s

sounds like you bruins fans are already polishing the cup and planning the parade route, will be curious to see how many of you boston fans are crying foul like babies if van pulls out a win tonight, seems like i,m still hearing a lot off wawawaaa mammy burrows bit me, and as far as the rome hit, he did deserve a suspension because it was a stride and a half maybe two strides late and he left his feet(no blindside,no elbow have watched it many times) but it has been exaggerated so much you would think rome flew in on a missile. . the only thing i have read in this blog is about how much the canucks fans whine and whining about the canucks thats after you won two in a row i would hate to here the whine if you lose

  • nate

waa wwaa waa waa mommy alex bit me
wwaa waa waaaaa mommy aeron hit me
wwaaw waaa waaa mommy they aren’t playing nice they play dirty
waa waa wwaa vigneault told on me

boston fan = hypocrit in case you don,t know thats someone who claims to dislike something but do it themselves.
example like saying waving you finger in someones face is classless then doing it twice right afterwards lol

  • Jesse

I hope Luongo has two shutouts now.

    Not really.

Let in another 12 goals in two games, please.

  • Malena Bosque

THE BIG BADS BRUINS WILL ALWAYS BE = THE BIG BAD BRUINS!!!! THEY CAN DO ANYTHING AND NEVER HAVE TO PAY CAUSE CAMPBELL IS IN THEIR CAMP! YOUR ARE JUST A BUNCH OF JERKS! AND YOUR ALWAYS WILL!
YOU CAN HIT A PLAYER AND SEND HIM TO THE HOSPITAL (PACIORETTY) BUT THAT WAS NOT YOURE FAULT, BUT IF IT IS ONE OF YOUR PLAYER, THEN IT’S THE OTHER WAY, SO PLEASE SHUT UP! RECCHI ACCUSED CANADIENS OF MAKING SHOW OFF WITH PACIORETTI, WHAT DID YOU DO WITH HORTON??? THE NEXT DAY HE WAS OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND WITH YOU, THAT WAS A BIG SHOW OFF! YOU ARE THE SAME KIND OF THE BOSTON TEA PARTY GANG!
SHAME ON YOU BIG BADS BRUINS Your color smell !!!

  • R.T.

I have to say, I used to like Vancouver a lot, but their antics are really starting to annoy me. Their coach complains about Tim Thomas, when their player slashed him to begin with. They didn’t say anything about the biting incident in which the player that with no doubt at all whatsoever SHOULD NOT have been playing in game 2 single handedly won the game for them. Then as soon as they start to lose, it’s “well he is doing this, and they are doing that.” The Bruins didn’t whine about the biting incident at all. show some class. Play your game.. and STOP THE DIVING VANCOUVER! You look like a spanish soccer team out there!

  • Vancouver Dave

The NHL is consistent in ruling in Boston favor, no matter the situation. Thomas is clearly guilty of interference. The hit on Sedin before the puck arrive, it is the definition of interference. All AV is saying is let’s play hockey by the rules.

Note in game 4 there were more than 25 slashes on the Sedins that were not called but were shown on tv. Miss one or two, I understand, but miss 25, and it’s clear that the NHL is trying to tilt the ice in Boston’s favor.

  • http://bigbadblog Palmy

You need to know that niether Boston or Vancouver is my team but being a Canadian through and through Vancouver is my obvious favorate. I have played and coached hockey for 60 years and still enjoy playing but what Gary Bettman is doing to this game makes me sick to my stomach. The whole SHOW has deterioated to a blood sport similar to ulimate cage fighting. This is his plan on how to sell the sport to blood thursty US fans. What happened to skilled hockey, unfortunatly it doesn’t fill seats. The refereeing has lowered to the lowest standard of all professional sports not to mention that the referee and chief may like to put a Stanley Cup ring on his sons finger. Even the commentators have bought into this joke. If i hear any more about good old time hockey and good non calls from these idiots i may puke. The 4th game in Boston had nothing to do with hockey and Don Cherry is my biggest disappointment. Constant slashing away from the play was allowed all night and then a phantom call on Vancouver was beyond belief. Do you really think the 5th game that saw Boston trying to play a skilled game in Vancouver was by thier choice. Why would a team change anything coming off two big wins. Think about it folks. I would suggest the deal was to play a skilled game and Boston would get the power play advantages which the score sheet clearly shows. The plan backfired. Mr Bettman has no need to sell hockey in Canada so letting a Canadian team win the cup is not advantagess to his plans for OUR game. It is a clear sign of where this game is going when a life time fan shuts the game off before the end. I would hope everyone that would like to see hockey games decided by the players not the referees. Games that are played tough with respect for other players and skill plays ,might make thier thoughts known in all media resourses.

  • val cole

I am a Canadiens fan and i have to say i dislike Boston. They play dirty and get away with it. They may win the next game monday night but the Canucks will take the cup at home where it should be! Smiling Tim Thomas won’t be smiling then lol

  • MilburyIsatool

God the hyperbole and ignorance here is mind numbing! AV was responding to Thomas’ INCORRECT assertion that once he left the crease, he could not be impeded on his way back. The oppossing player can not initiate contact with him in the blue paint, nor can they run the goalie, but standing behind Thomas while hes way outside his crease- is allowed- he would have to skate around them. As for the hit he laid on Sedin, its not something that comes up very often-but shouldve been interference- as Sedin wasnt in the blue paint- and is not allowed to hit Thomas (cant have it both ways). It was a risky play by Thomas-but worked out.

The Vancouver Canuck fanbase is pathetic. After the worst display of “sore loserism” the world has ever seen, all we are hearing out of Vancouver is excuses. We hear how this was a “small minority”. Do you think we’re all fools? We saw the footage. It was you, Vancouver. Do the rest of the county a favour and annex yourself. You’ve forfeited the right to call yourselves Canadian. You’re not Canadians, you’re animals. Please leave Canada to the true Canadians and go away.
