Luongo: Lapierre’s goal ‘an easy save for me’ 06.11.11 at 5:58 am ET
By DJ Bean

VANCOUVER — Some made a big deal of Roberto Luongo taking a shot at Tim Thomas before the series, even though Loungo never did so. Yet after Friday’s Game 5, Luongo may indeed have taken a bit of a dig at his fellow Vezina finalist.

One goal was allowed between both goaltenders, with Maxim Lapierre taking a puck that had bounced off the end boards after a Kevin Bieksa shot and beating Thomas. Asked whether he could make the save, Luongo went back to the series-long trend of talking about whether or not Thomas plays correctly postitionionally.

“It’s not hard if you’re playing in the paint,” Luongo said of the difficulty of the play. “It’s an easy save for me, but if you’re wandering out and aggressive like he does, that’s going to happen. He might make some saves that I won’t, but in a case like that, we want to take advantage of a bounce like that and make sure we’re in a good position to bury those.”

Luongo picked up his fourth shutout of the postseason Friday.

    He is 100 percent correct
Thomas has made great saves but he has cost the team all three loses by the way he plays and the bruins will get destroyed monday
Lucic Chara Begeron Krejci Ryder have been awful in the finals and all these players can not step it up in big games
How chara is the Captain of the Bruins is a choke
Even Thomas said after the game that the Bruins forwards did not show up
Marchand is the best player in the playoffs and gives it 100 percent every shift and he is a free agent and will be gone next year
Bruins power play cost them the cup along with players taking games off

  • Steve’s BF

Replay shows that Thomas was in the paint on the goal last night. Steve’s analysis confirms him as a grade A moron. Call it a lucky bounce on the end board. Bruins will win game 6 and 7 then Steve can suck his BF’s junk.

Hey Stevie, for your info, Brad Marchand is a restricted free agent. He will only be “gone” if the B’s decide he will be gone.As far as certain Bruins taking games off, please let me know which ones you speak of. Remember Thelma & Louise play for the Canucks, not the B’s.

Luongo’s really one to talk when he can’t even stop the puck from going in between his legs or catch a puck with his glove. Win or lose the series Thomas’s GAA is probably going to be way less than half of this bums’.

    Goalie A criticizing Goalie B.

Goalie A gave up 12 goals in 2 games.

Goalie A is playing for a more talented team than Goalie B.

Goalie A is full of himself (among other things).

http://scotthoughts1.blogspot.com/2011/06/luongos-comments-blown-way-out-of.html Luongo’s comments blown out of proportion, but still ill-advised

Luongo’s point was not meant to be a shot. He answered the question from a goalie’s point of view. It sounds like a shot at Thomas but he is just making a wonky, albeit ill timed comment about the difference in goaltending techniques. All that said, he should have have just said something dull and boring and “we will come back in game 6″. I am a Bruins fan and thought it was stupid of him to make the comment – all it did was put the spotlight on him.
