The agent for Bruins restricted free agent Brad Marchand recently told CSNNE‘s Joe Haggerty that the two sides are not close to a deal to keep the folk hero in Boston.

“Discussions with the Bruins remain open and ongoing regarding Brad, but nothing is imminent,” agent Wade Arnott told Haggerty.

When asked whether a deal would be done before training camp opens on Sept. 16, Arnott replied, “[I’m] hopeful, but it’s no sure thing.”

Last season, Marchand had 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points. He added 19 more points in the playoffs, including two goals in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Classic Wade Arnott. Such a great agent, he’s the Scott Boras version of hockey. He’s great at holding out his clients until the last minute, milking every last penny out of the teams.

I love him,but how bout a package of him Boychuck n Hamilton for Doughty?..opinions?

They wouldn’t take Johnny. He’s really nothing special. The Kings won’t trade him for just that package, they’d want more.

Couture just signed a 2 year deal at about $2.875M/YR. This should speed up the Marchand negotiations. NO WAY Marshmont should get more than Logan Couture, but at the worst case, the same contract. I’ll say something around 2-3 years between $2.5-2.75M/YR.
