Andrew Ference suspended three games for hit on Ryan McDonagh 01.22.12 at 1:55 pm ET
By DJ Bean

The NHL announced Sunday that Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference has been suspended three games for his hit on Ryan McDonagh Saturday.

Ference and McDonagh were both chasing a puck Ference had chipped behind Henrik Lundqvist’s net in overtime when Ference shoved the Rangers blueliner into the endboards.

The B’s defenseman, who had tied a career high with his fourth goal of the season earlier in the game, was given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct. The Bruins remained on the penalty kill until Marian Gaborik scored with 3.6 remaining to give the Rangers a 3-2 victory.

With Ference out, Steven Kampfer will be in the Bruins’ lineup Sunday in Philadelphia.

Ference’s suspension is the Bruins’ third of the season, which ties the Flames for most suspensions for a team this season. Milan Lucic (one game in December) and Brad Marchand (five games earlier this month) are the other two Bruins to b suspended this season.

The off ice punishment for infractions is nearing ridiculous. They may as well negate in game penalties and just make rulings after the game is over. The penalty is asessed at the time and served during the game, additional enforcement isnt necessary except in the most extreme circumstances. Might as well take hitting and fighting out of the game and then we can all skip around the Maypole……sheesh……disgusting…….

Seems BShanahan is becoming addicted to being in the spotlight.  This is his worst call yet. PK Subban got away with his attempt to injure with no suspension oh wait he is black and the nhl is afraid of the race card.

    Bogus.

In the NHL, you are not guilty until caught. Granted, for whatever reason some incidents are not penalized. In the case of Ference, he is guilty as charged.

The ranger player is fortunate that he was not seriously injured and Ference should perhaps learned a hard lesson.

This wasn’t a malicious hit, McDonagh was off balance when Ference checked him…causing him to awkwardly fall into the boards…a boarding call at worst, anything more is bs…

It’s comments like this that gives Boston a bad rap for being a racist town…I’m sure there are plenty of bad hits by white guys in the predominantly white NHL where there is no suspension but your obsessed about the black guy not getting his.  I’m sure his bias is more about the color of jersey the player is wearing than the color of his skin.
