| Bruins get back to winning, defeat Capitals | 02.05.12 at 3:11 pm ET |
The victories are piling up for Boston fans on Sunday, as the Bruins took a 4-1 victory over the Capitals to join the Celtics in the winner’s circle. Of course, there is one game left…
On a day on which Claude Julien shuffled some of the Bruins’ lines amidst the team’s struggles, it was Patrice Bergeron‘s line — which stayed intact — that produced big for Boston. Both Bergeron (two assists) and Brad Marchand (a goal and an assist) had two-point games for the Bruins, who broke a two-game losing streak.
Playing with Milan Lucic and Chris Kelly, Rich Peverley sent a pass through Dennis Wideman and onto the stick of Lucic in front, and Lucic finished the play with his 19th goal of the season at 10:45 in the first period. Marchand made it 2-0 late in the period with his 19th of the year. After a scoreless second period, Tyler Seguin took a nice feed from Marchand in front and buried his team-leading 20th goal of the season.
Tim Thomas‘ shutout bid was broken up with 7:56 remaining in the game by Marcus Johansson‘s 11th goal of the season. Peverley added an empty-netter for the B’s with 41 seconds remaining.
Thomas, who was playing on back-to-back days, made 33 saves in the victory. With the win, the reigning Vezina winner improved to 22-10-0 on the season.
With Kelly centering Peverley and Lucic, David Krejci played with Benoit Pouliot and Jordan Caron. Zach Hamill was scratched in favor in Caron, whom the Bruins recalled from Providence on Saturday.
The Bruins will face the Sabres in Buffalo on Wednesday.
