Milan Lucic questions Karl Alzner’s toughness after crybaby gesture 04.16.12 at 11:21 pm ET

WASHINGTON — Milan Lucic has been called a lot of things before, but Monday brought an accusation with which he feels unfamiliar.

With the Bruins on the power play late in the third period of Game 3 against the Capitals, Lucic was cross-checked by Washington defenseman Dennis Wideman. That led to Lucic scrapping with forward Matt Hendricks before defenseman Karl Alzner jumped in to take on Lucic. After the scrum was broken up by officials, Alzner made a crying gesture at Lucic.

“Well, there’s a lot of [proof] on my side to show that I’m not a crybaby,” Lucic said after the game. “That’s a lot coming from a guy I think who’s got two roughing penalties in three years, so there you go.

Asked whether he felt Alzner was the third man in, an offense that is punishable by a game misconduct, Lucic grinned and chose his words carefully before answering.

“Yup.”

    I was infuriated that the announcers didn’t even mention the third man in, then Looch gets the extra two minutes.   That was horrible officiating.

    I think the refs had watched Looch getting chippy, then trying to take on everyone and they were determined to “put him in his place.” not saying it was right, but that happens.

     Third man in only applies if it’s not against a big guy like Looch or Z.

    Wait until Lucic slaps Alzner around like he does his girlfriend.  Then Lucic will ask the officials if they know who he is.

    That’s because you must have been watching it on the NBS Sports channel. They know nothing about hockey! And get rid of that idiot “between the glass” already. My left toe knows more about hockey and asking good questions. He has three of them, “what is the toughest part of….”, “What can you take away from….” and this one isn’t a question but he ends every interview with “go have fun out there”. 

    Get him off the air!

    Next time watch NESN because Jack Edwards was livid over the non 3rd man in call!

    not if he has a face injury – he’s probably better off waiting a series and get healed up.

    I do agree that it would have made a difference if he was not injured

    Technically that wasn’t a 3rd man in penalty….First of all, Hendricks didn’t even have his gloves off, plus the ref was between them, so it was more of a rugbee scrum. 3rd man in has to be stepping in the middle of a full fledged, gloves-off, fight. That’s not what happened.

    Believe me, I think Alzner is a gutless clown. He’d never have the sack to take Lucic (or anyone else) on face to face. God knows he’ll turtle when Lucic confronts him Thursday night. For a guy like that to gesture something to Lucic, who is a legitimate tough guy in the league is a joke. Someone will plaster him when the series is in the bag.

    i assume the cry baby thing was a reaction to what lucic was saying to the officials
