Former Bruins forward Stan Jonathan has been charged with criminal negligence causing death in a hunting death.

Jonathan, 57, was deer hunting when he shot and killed Peter Kosid, who was wearing camouflage. According to a CBC report, Jonathan went over after firing the shot and the police were called after Kosid’s body was found.

In his NHL career, Jonathan had 91 goals and 110 assists for 201 points in 411 games. He played parts of eight seasons for the B’s.

What a waste.  Poor deceased gentleman.  At least the ANIMALS he was hunting didn’t see the end of his gun.  Anyone shooting an animal for sport, legal or not, should get more than criminal negligence.  How about second degree murder?  He went out there trying to kill something. Negligence won’t take care of his family and kids for the rest of their lives.  When did an animal ever take a gun to him? Maybe one day an animal will venture out while he is on a narrow, winding road and run him off an enbankement.

Slapstac,  while this story may be sad and a result of neglegence, it is not nearly as sad as the individual who would grandstand on top of such unfortunate events to further his own leftist urban non survivalist agenda.  I do not actively hunt, but I do, however, maintain the knowledge, ability, and intestinal fortitude to do what is needed to survive if your local supermarket should someday not be available.  Some people hunt for food and skill, not sport and trophy.  This story is disturbing, but does not once say they were out for sport.  You may disagree with hunting and/or eating animals at all, but when the power goes out and the grocery store is closed; when the ground is frozen and there is no way to aquire plant sustanance…would you hunt or starve?  As a well trained marksman I know I will always have a meal no matter the state of the grid or society.  Besides we have one stomach, kanine teeth, and eyes in the front of our head….all evolutionary tools for hunting and consuming meat.  I will go vegetarian when my eyes migrate to the side of my head, I grow multiple stomachs, and have all molars.

Hello. Thanks for your descriptive thoughts, which I do appreciate. I was not being sarcastic, and seriously have empathy for both parties involved, but have my right to be against hunting for sport when one does not hunt for food such as in earlier centuries. North America population in particular, combined with practically every other country, is needlessly carrying baggage of extra weight, causing the theory of hunting to eat the last 100 years ridiculous. IMHO. I am not telling you to go vegetarian.  This article does not say they were out for sport. Are you kidding me, really? Is this hunter living on an island? No access to food? I am not familiar with the area this accident occurred in, but nowhere in the article did it say that the former player now is under such dire circumstances that he has to hunt to for his daily meals.

(off topic…) I just hope Michael Vick “fans” realize how he should never have been forgiven and given re-entry into the NFL, money, fame and absolutely no shame for his “fans.” He currently has a dog in his house; his reason being HE WANTS HIS CHILDREN TO GROW UP HAVING A DOG. He should still be in jail and then his kid can have a dog in HER home. Any society giving him the time of day sure is fu(ked up. Good night.

It is sad that this article has led to a discussion about poor animals and big bad hunters. I shot a deer last Saturday. Yes I have access to food, no I do not live on an island. My forefathers have put food on the table by hunting for generations. If I choose to carry on the tradition instead of walking across the street to a grocery store, so be it. Just because I have access to food in stores does not mean I can’t hunt for my own food also. FYI. More animals are killed from loss of habitat (urban sprawl) than by us hunters.
