The Bruins couldn’t take advantage of a reeling Carolina team, with the Hurricanes winning at home for the first time in the last nine tries, beating the B’s, 4-2, Saturday night.
The Hurricanes came in with a seven-game losing streak, having been trounced the Bruins, 6-2, earlier in the week. This time, however, Carolina took advantage of two power-play goals, the last one ‘ by Joe Corvo 9:36 into the final period ‘ proved to be the difference.
The Hurricanes had been just 1-13-1 over their last 15 games.
The Bruins entered the game a league-best 17-2-1 when scoring first, which was the case this time around thanks to Milan Lucic ‘s goal 6:07 into the first period.
But Carolina would send the game tied heading into the first intermission thanks to Jeff Skinner’s power-play goal. The Hurricanes would out-shoot their visitors 17-4 in the first 20 minutes.
The B’s managed to out-shoot Carolina, 13-8, in the second period, but the Hurricanes still managed to take a 2-1 lead when Jiri Tlusty beat Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask .
Tyler Seguin managed to knot the game up at 2-2 with 2:03 left in the second.
Tlusty added an insurance, empty-netter with :28 remaining.
