Bruins react to Team USA’s disappointing finish

Team USA scored its last goal of the Olympics against David Krejci [1] and the Czech Republic. Nobody could have seen back-to-back shutouts and no spot on the podium coming from there, but Krejci wasn’t too shocked.

Team USA, which was ranked No. 2 coming out of the preliminary round, failed to medal after being shut out by Canada in the semifinals and Finland in the bronze medal game. The tournament is largely being viewed as a massive failure on the Americans’ part, but Krejci said he wasn’t surprised they didn’t medal.

“Actually, the game against us was a little weird,” Krejci said Monday. “They got three goals from behind the net, if you watched the game. You couldn’t really tell how great they were playing or how bad. We didn’t really push them to the limits. But I knew they had a good team. I’m not surprised they didn’t get a medal. Sweden and Finland, they all have great teams.”

Chara was a bit more respectful of Team USA’s showing, as the States spanked Slovakia, 7-1, in the opening game of the preliminary round. Amazingly, Chara had an even rating in that game, but he came away impressed with Team USA and was more impressed as the tournament went on prior to the collapse.

“That was our first game, and for sure it wasn’t our best performance,” Chara said. “They were very deep. I felt [a few games into the tournament], they looked like they were the best team. For sure, nobody expected them to finish without a medal, but they played really, really good, strong hockey.”
