Report: Bruins invite Simon Gagne to training camp

08.15.14 at 2:15 pm ET

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the Bruins have invited veteran left wing Simon Gagne to next month’€™s training camp on a tryout.

Now 34 years old, the longtime Flyer bounced around the league in recent seasons, spending 2010-11 in Tampa Bay before heading to the Kings for parts of two seasons and spending the lockout-shortened 2013 season between Los Angeles and Philadelhia. He did not play in the NHL last season.

Gagne was known to be a Bruins killer in his Flyers career, most notably scoring the game-winners for Philadelphia in Games 4 and 7 of the 2010 Eastern Conference semifinals, a series that the Bruins had led, 3-0.

On paper, Gagne’€™s odds of catching on with the B’€™s would appear to be slim. The Bruins have a number of young wingers competing for either one or two wing spots, depending on whether Gregory Campbell plays center or left wing.
