Report: Chris Clark to Providence 11.02.11 at 11:35 am ET
By   |  No Comments

The slumping Bruins have made a move, though it isn’t a huge one. According to Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe, veteran forward Chris Clark has signed a professional tryout agreement and will report to Providence. The veteran forward was in Boston on a tryout during the preseason and lasted until the very last day but was released from his tryout.

The signing of the 35-year-old could eventually provide the B’s with a good leader and hard-nosed player should he make it to Boston this season. Clark was a former captain of the Capitals and wore an ‘A’ for one of the Bruins’ preseason games. He broke his nose in a fight during his last preseason game with the B’s.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli announced at Tuesday’s media day that the team waived goaltender Anton Khudobin on Monday. According to the Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa, Khudobin cleared waivers.

With Khudobin headed to Providence, it appears the current roster is the one that fans will see in Thursday night’s season-opener. The final shoe to drop will be the signing of veteran forward Chris Clark, who has been in camp on a tryout. Both Clark and Chiarelli said Tuesday that nothing has been finalized.

According to a report from Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe, veteran winger Chris Clark will be at Bruins camp this month on a tryout basis.

The longtime Flame and Capital spent the last two seasons with the Blue Jackets. Last season, he scored five goals and added 10 assists in 53 games. Now 35, Clark’s best statistical season came in 2006-07, when he had 30 goals and 24 points.

Clark, who hails from South Windsor, Conn., will compete with Benoit Pouliot and some of the Bruins’ prospects for a roster spot. Among the players to compete with Clark and Pouliot are Jordan Caron and Jared Knight.

The Bruins saw the last veteran they brought in for a tryout sign with the team. Last season, enforcer Brian McGrattan participated in the Bruins’ camp and made the Europe trip before being signed. He ended up spending time in Providence before being traded to the Ducks in February.
