Bruins center David Krejci, who was held out of Saturday’s practice with the flu and was not on the team flight to Atlanta, will not play on Sunday vs. the Thrashers, according to multiple reports. Claude Julien had left open the possibility of Krejci or Jordan Caron, also out with the flu, potentially meeting the team in Atlanta, but neither ended up travelling, according to the Boston Globe. Sunday’s game will be the second straight contest Caron has missed, as he was kept out of Friday’s 3-0 loss to the Hurricanes after getting sick on Thursday.

With the two out, Jamie Arniel will make his NHL debut. Arniel was recalled on an emergency basis on Saturday. In 19 games this season, the 21-year-old Arniel has nine goals and seven assists, leading the Providence Bruins with 16 points.

With Jordan Caron and David Krejci missing Saturday’s practice with the flu, the Bruins announced Saturday that they have recalled Jamie Arniel from Providence on an emergency basis. It’s the second time this month that Arniel has been called up, as he was summoned in early November when Michael Ryder missed practice. Here’s the press release:

BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled forward Jamie Arniel from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis (American Hockey League). Arniel will join the club on the trip to Atlanta and be available for the Bruins game against the Thrashers on Sunday, November 28.

This is Arniel’s second recall to Boston, he was recalled on Tuesday, November 9 and was a healthy scratch in the team’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, November 10.

The 21-year-old Arniel has appeared in 19 games this season for Providence, and leads the team in points and goals with 9-7=16 totals.

Arniel completed his first full pro season with the Providence Bruins in 2009-10, with 12-16=28 totals in 67 games. He won the club’s Rookie of the Year award and led all P-Bruins first-year players in scoring and
assists.

The Kingston, Ontario native was drafted by Boston in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Hamill sets up game-winner in rookie win over Leafs 09.07.09 at 5:54 pm ET

The Bruins rookies got off to a good start during the preseason rookie tournament in Kitchener, Ontario with a 6-5 win over the Maple Leafs rooks on Monday afternoon. Center Zach Hamill, who the B’s expect to make a big jump in his second full year of pro hockey this season, totalled four points in the overtime victory, and set up the game-winning OT goal on a pretty give-and-go with Jamie Arniel. Adam Courchaine started in net for the Black and Gold.

Hamill experienced ups and downs during his first full season in Providence last year while battling through a thumb injury, but B’s officials hope that the soon-to-be-21-year-old undersized center can look toward David Krejci as a model for success in the NHL. The 2007 first round pick scored 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) last season, but is expected to make a big jump up in production from the pivot this season.

The B’s rookies will practice on Tuesday and then drop the puck against the Ottawa Senators rookie team in another tournament game on Wednesday.
